Helsinki with surrounding cities and municipalities form a region that is the largest urbanized area in Finland with 1,4 Million  inhabitants. It is by far the most important economic, cultural, and scientific region of Finland.

In this Metropolitan area Humak has two campuses – in Nurmijärvi and in Kauniainen – and one RDI-Centre. Kauniainen is a small city 16 km west of Helsinki downtown and Nurmijärvi is a municipality about 50 km north of Helsinki. The RDI-Centre is situated in a western Helsinki suburb Haaga some 10 km from city centre.

Nurmijärvi campus offers courses for international students in Helsinki area

Nurmijärvi Campus is the hub for Humak’s Sports and Adventure Education Erasmus  Courses and the coming Bachelor of Adventure and Outdoor Education degree programme. .

In addition to courses for Adventure education, Humak Nurmijärvi campus is specialized in Civic Activities and Youth Work. The courses are in Finnish as well as  other courses offered by Humak Metropolitan. Kauniainen Campus educates Cultural Managers and Sign Language Interpreters are taught in Helsinki.

The focus of Helsinki Regional Unit is among other things nationwide youth work, youth work on the internet, the cultural activities in the Metropolitan area,  multicultural work and projects overriding the borders of disciplines.

Humakin Nurmijärven kampus

Nurmijärvi campus provides excellent possibilities for motion and sports. It is situated by a beautifil lake, there is a swimming pool, a sauna, a gym, bicycles for the use of students – and especially beautiful nature all around.  The ideal way of getting aquinted with Finnish nature is hiking in Nuuksio national park, which is not far away.

The campus is situated about 50 kilometres from Helsinki city centre. It takes approximately an hour to come by bus. Many students who live further from the campus, drive together by car.

Nurmijärven kampus
Nurmijärven kampuksella on monipuoliset liikuntamahdollisuudet.

It is possible to live in the dormitory of Nurmijärvi campus.  There are 26 rooms reserved for Humak students on 6th and 7th floor – single apartments,  double rooms and one modest one-room flat.

  • Single apartment. Two rooms with a common lobby. The doors of the rooms can be locked. The apartment contains also toilette and shower – there is a  joint TV in the living room and  a kitchen. The rent is  260 euros per month.
  • Double room for two friends. The rent is 139 euros per month.
  • 7th floor one-room flat  is smaller and shower is in the corridor. the rent is 100 euros per month.

The rent contains water and electricity and the possibility to use sauna, swimming pool and gym daily. Student he lunch costs during the school week 2,60 euros.

The prices are subject to changes. Ask more about the prices of accommondation and meals as well as the timetables of the busses.

Kauniainen campus

The students of the degree programmes of cultural management and sign language interpreting study two first years in Kauniainen campus, 16 kilometres from Helsinki downtown.  The campus is worth visiting, especially during the spring- and summertime. It has a beautiful garden and a fine new library with more than 27 000 books.

How to come to Kauniainen

The train from Helsinki main railway station goes 18 minutes to Kauniainen railway station, from where busses 109 and 43 go to Humak Kauniainen campus.  The direct bus from Helsinki to Kauniainen goes 40-45 minutes.

Helsinki RDI-centre (Ilkka)

Helsingin TKI-keskus (Ilkka) sijaitsee Haagassa Valkeassa Talossa-

Ilkka is the place where the students of Humak Helsinki region complete their studies. During their 3rd and 4th year they have the possibility to participate in real-life  projects and work together with their potential employers. The networks that mix students´with working-life experience create new models of action and promote new ideas.

Study office, Admissions office, Student union HUMAKO

At every campus the study office helps students in practical matters. In Helsinki RDI-centre in Light hous there is study office,  admissions office and the office of Students´union HUMAKO.

President´s office and administration

In Helsinki RDI-centre you can also find those who work for the administration of Humak, that is: the president, part of the group of directors, financial administration, information services and communications.  Some officers belonging to administrative personnel work in other regional units of the network organization. Additionally some senior and principal lecturers and project workers work in Helsinki RDI-centre.

Also master level education, adult education and open education courses  are arranged in the RDI-centre.

Take a bus or a city train to Light House.

From Helsinki downtown (Elielinaukio)  busses 43 ja 40 come to Ilkantie 4.
A-, E-, L-, M-, S- ja U-trains drive from Helsinki railway station to Huopalahti station, from where there is 5 minutes wak..

There are some parking places outside the Light House.
