As the models of financing education have been altered in Finland, many universities of applied sciences have restructured their organization. In connection with this structural reform of Finnish higher education Humak made the decision to reduce the number of units. This meant closing campuses in Joensuu and Tornio. We have now four regional units.
Last intake of students to these two campuses was in autumn 2012, and the students that started their studies then graduate till the end of 2015.
After this, community educator studies are concentrated in four regional units, that is Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Helsinki Metropolitan Area (Nurmijärvi and Helsinki) and Turku.
The nationwide and regional development of civic activities and youth work in eastern and northern Finland continues by other Humak´s regional units.
Campus in Joensuu
During ten years Joensuu Campus was a central educator and developer of civic activities and youth work in Eastern Finland. The active cooperation with the work-life of the area will continue from Kuopio and other Humak´s regional units.
Campus in Tornio
Tornio Campus has been active since 2000 in developing the youth work and civic activities in Northern Finland.
The number of international students has been exceptionally high in Tornio. The main attraction has been Adventure education, which has brought to the gates of Lappland those who wish to experience the northern nature.
In 2004 Adventure Education moved to southern Finland, to Nurmijärvi Campus which is situated next to Nuuksio national park in Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
