UPDATED INSTRUCTIONS FOR TRAVELING AND REMOTE WORK TO OUR STAFF AND STUDENTS
The threat of coronavirus spreading is serious enough to warrant precautionary measures. Humak is prepared to prevent the spread of the virus in order to ensure the continuity of our operations. As a result, instructions for domestic and foreign travel have been made more assertive.
The EFFECTS OF Coronavirus ON THE TERMINATION OR CANCELLATION OF STUDENTS’ TRAVELS
The upcoming periods of intensive studying, student exchanges, and internship periods will be cancelled until 13.4., before which the situation will be re-assessed.
If you have a planned internship coming up, please contact Erasmus coordinator Timo Sorvoja.
If the student’s Erasmus+ institution or country has been labelled as an epidemic area (based on the travel announcements of the Ministry of Foreign Office), the student is entitled to the first portion of the fund (80 %), assuming they can provide proof of the expenses the cancellation has caused them. Even if the student’s exchange period is not taking place at an epidemic area, the planned internship can be cancelled, or an ongoing internship terminated, if the reason is related to the coronavirus. An acceptable reason is e.g. the student’s anxiety about getting infected. If the internship has already begun, the receiving institution will help determine whether or not the internship can continue in spite of the virus.
Our main policy is that the student must not suffer financially if Humak or our international partners decide to cancel the exchange period.

TRAVELING ABROAD
The international travels of our staff are canceled for the time being. No new travel plans will be made. The situation will be re-assessed in early April.
STAY HOME AFTER YOU RETURN FROM A TRIP ABROAD (both work and leisure)
The students and staff members of Humak returning from epidemic areas (or via them, including intermediate landings at airports) will, from this moment on, spend a mandatory 14 days of studying/working from home. This includes internships – the student must inform the supervisor of their internship of the need to work remotely.
Humak students and staff returning from non-epidemic areas need to keep away from their workplace/studying facilities/place of internship for 7 days. Work and studying is done remotely. You can discuss remote studying with your HEKS-instructor/the supervisor of your internship.
Staff is advised to contact their superior; students should contact their study instructor.
No visits for any reason are allowed at the place of work or study before the end of the 14-day precautionary period.
RECEIVING GUESTS AND STUDENT GROUPS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES
International guests or student groups are not received at Humak for the time being. The instructions will be updated in early April.
TRAVELING IN FINLAND
Work-related domestic travels of our staff are to be avoided. Humak’s internal meetings should primarily be held remotely. Teaching days at other Humak campuses that are indispensable and already planned out can be carried out. Trainings and auxiliary events must always be attended remotely, if there is such an option available. This course of conduct is effective immediately and until further notice.
KEEP YOUR WORK EQUIPMENT WITH YOU
Because the situation might change quickly, the staff must make sure that they have all the necessary equipment (PC, phone, chargers) with them, in case workplaces are shut down or a person without symptoms is quarantined.
Remember to also take your equipment with you when you have a longer period of time off/vacation.

LATEST UPDATE ON CORONA-EPIDEMY IN FINLAND 11.3.2020
- So far, 40 laboratory-confirmed cases caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) have been diagnosed in Finland. Of these, 30 are related to tourism and ten are secondary infections.
- All of the cases diagnosed in Finland have been mild. Some have also required hospital care.
