Bilingual Education
KaksKo seeks to boost international students’ employment prospects by integrating Finnish language training and support into English-medium degrees.
Advancing Bilingual Higher Education!
The KaksKo/BiEd project seeks to help migrant and international students in English-medium higher education programmes develop the language skills they will need to live and work in Finland.
Bringing together four Finnish universities of applied sciences (TAMK, OAMK, Savonia and Humak), the project aims to provide students with meaningful opportunities to learn and practise Finnish during their studies and to equip teaching staff and placement supervisors with the knowledge and tools they need to support language learners.
Our focus, at Humak, is on developing a model of work placement supervision and resources to support and promote language learning.
Actions
At Humak, we are:
– embedding language learning opportunities into subject teaching and building a comprehensive programme of support to help students develop their Finnish language skills.
– equipping teaching staff with the tools, knowledge and resources to support Finnish language learners via a workshop series and joint online training package.
– developing and piloting a model of language-integrated work placements to support both workplaces and trainees.
