Separate application via the Open UAS studies
Separate application
In the separate application based on open UAS studies, you can apply using the path studies you have completed at Humak Open UAS or through secondary-level “väylä” studies.
The application periods are twice a year: 1–15 May in spring and 1–15 November in autumn. This page provides information on how to apply and important dates. Applications are submitted through Studyinfo.fi
Path studies
After completing your Humak path studies, you can apply for a degree programme through the separate application via the Open UAS Studies. The path studies are fully credited if you are admitted as a degree student at Humak. Path studies are offered only in Finnish-taught degree programmes.
You will secure a place as a degree student when…
- You have completed the required path studies within at most four consecutive semesters preceding the application
- You are applying on time to a degree programme corresponding to your path studies
- Online studies (Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes): your study records are in the Peppi system before the end of the application period.
- Daytime and blended studies (Bachelor’s programmes): your study records are in Peppi by 31 July for the spring separate application and by 31 December for the autumn separate application. If your records are not completed by the end of the application period, the admission decision will be conditional. A conditional admission means that your place is confirmed only after the required study records have been entered into Peppi.
For Master’s path students, in addition to completing the path studies, you must meet the 24-month work experience requirement following a relevant higher education degree. Applicants to the Bachelor’s programmes in Interpretation and Community Education must also meet the health and functional capacity requirements related to the humanities and education studies.
As a Path student, you should apply through separate application via the Open UAS Studies as soon as you have completed your path studies. The required number of credits varies by degree programme:
- Cultural Manager (BA) 40 op
- Interpreting (BA) 60 op
- Community Educator (BA) 60 op
- Cultural Manager (MA) 15 op
- Community Educator (MA) 20 op
See the Student Guide for more detailed information.

If a student who has completed pathway studies applies for a degree programme in later separate applications, eligibility will be assessed by comparing the completed studies with the current curriculum. The assessment follows Humak’s recognition of prior learning (RPL/AHOT) guidelines.

“Väylä” studies – Secondary education students
“Väylä” (“a lane” in English) studies are meant for secondary education students, who are completing Bachelor’s-level studies at the Open UAS in the field of their secondary education. After completing a vocational degree and the Väylä studies, students can apply for degree studies via a separate application.
Humak’s Väylä studies are meant for students, who are studying in our partnering vocational schools in Finland. We don’t offer Väylä studies for international institutes or individual students at the moment. Currently Humak offers Väylä studies only in Community Education.

Admission decision
- We will send the admission decision to the email address you provided on your application form, approximately one month after the end of the application period.
- The one higher education place rule applies not only to the joint application but also to the open pathway separate application. An applicant may accept only one degree programme place starting in the same semester.
- Accepting a place is binding, and you cannot cancel or change your acceptance later. If you accept a place, for example, through the joint application, your application in the separate open pathway will be automatically canceled, and vice versa.
- The University of Applied Sciences may revoke the admission if certificates are not submitted by the deadline or if the applicant has provided incorrect information.
We reserve the right to make changes or clarifications to the selection criteria until the start of the application period.
