Studying
at Humak

A people-centred learning community

From learner to developer

At Humak, learning is based on coaching pedagogy. This means that you are an active participant in your own learning – instead of traditional lectures, we build competence together through hands-on learning. The teacher acts as your coach, supporting and guiding you forward.

Your studies progress through practical working-life assignments. At the beginning, you build an understanding of working-life practices and strengthen your ability to apply what you have learned in practice, both in your studies and in professional contexts. As your studies advance, you grow from a learner into a developer in working life, who analyses, evaluates and solves problems.

Coaching pedagogy challenges you to set increasingly demanding goals for yourself, develop your competence and grow into a professional.

From student to developer – leave your mark on working life

You can complete almost all of your courses through our projects and take part in working-life development work. Projects offer excellent opportunities for internships and thesis work, while also helping you build networks in working life. Many students have gained employment through project work.

Studying online, blended and daytime studies

Online studies

The online study format is suitable for you if you want to complete your degree entirely online. Some of your courses are scheduled, while for others you can study according to your own timetable. In the online format, you become part of a student community that interacts online.

Studying online requires planning, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently. The studies include group work, collaborative projects, independent assignments, and practical training in working life. Online studies also make it possible to combine work and studies and to study flexibly regardless of your place of residence.

Blended studies

The blended learning format is suitable for you if you want to combine on-campus and online studies. Your studies include scheduled lessons both on campus and online, as well as independent study carried out individually, in pairs, and in small groups. In the blended format, you become part of a student community that forms both online and on campus. During the first academic year, on-campus teaching takes place approximately once a month. As your studies progress, the amount of on-campus instruction gradually decreases.

Studying in the blended learning format requires planning, initiative, and self-directed learning skills. The studies include group work, collaborative projects, independent assignments, and practical training. During the practical training periods, learning takes place in authentic working-life environments. The blended learning format may also make it possible to combine part-time work with your studies.

Daytime studies

The daytime study format is suitable for you if you want to make use of campus facilities and the campus community in your daily life. In daytime studies, emphasis is placed on the sense of community and interaction that develops on campus. Your studies include scheduled lessons on campus and online, as well as independent study carried out individually, in pairs, and in small groups. During the first years of your studies, on-campus teaching takes place on average a few days per week in addition to online studies. As your studies progress, the amount of on-campus instruction gradually decreases.

Studying in the daytime format requires planning, initiative, and self-directed learning skills. In addition to on-campus teaching, the studies include online learning, group and project work, independent assignments, and practical training. During practical training periods, learning takes place in authentic working-life environments.

Internationality in studies

An exchange abroad provides a unique opportunity to learn in a new environment, develop language skills, and gain international experience. You will learn to operate in different cultures, build international networks, and simultaneously grow your self-confidence and professional competence. Exchange experiences broaden your perspective and often become one of the highlights of your studies. Humak’s student exchanges are carried out through the Erasmus+ programme.

Student ambassador programme

Would you like to highlight everyday student life at Humak and share your own experiences? As a Humak student ambassador, you will represent your university of applied sciences and develop your communication and presentation skills.

The ambassador programme offers you the opportunity to meet a wide range of people and build working-life skills under the guidance of our communications team. You will represent Humak at various events, while also having the opportunity to act as an ambassador for your own degree programme and to apply personality and personal experiences.

Student Ambassadors

As a student ambassador, you will meet prospective students face-to-face. You may take part in, for example, education fairs, school visits, city events, and applicant days across Finland.

You can work alone, in pairs, or as part of a larger group – depending on the situation and event.

Social Media Ambassadors

As a social media ambassador, you make everyday life at Humak visible on social media. You create content for Humak’s channels and share your student experiences in your own style.

Assignments vary from introduction posts to themed weeks and joint application marketing. You can create content according to your own strengths and schedule.

Ambassadors have been selected for the 2025–2026 academic year. We will announce future recruitments on social media and on the students’ Teams channel.
