Our students will bring fresh vision, practical skills and a passion for development
You can get an intern to help you, order a thesis or bring your challenges to the Kasvupaja workshop to be solved. Cooperation with students is an agile way of advancing projects for which you require additional resources or a new viewpoint.
Cooperation is easy
You can start by commissioning an internship, leaving a thesis assignment or giving a development challenge to the Kasvupaja workshop. We will help you find a suitable student or team.
Submit your assignment to the mobile student service. You can also use the service to offer volunteer work and gigs.

Intern
Are students are performing internships throughout the year. Interns bring up-to-date theoretical knowledge and practical skills to organisations regarding topics such as youth and organisational work, adventure education, the development of working communities, cultural production, project management, sign language and interpretation for the speech impaired, and communication guidance.
Finding an intern is easy: Leave a free internship commission by clicking the attached link on this card (opens a new tab in our Jobs service).
Thesis (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
A thesis is a comprehensive developmental work, which the student completes in close cooperation with the customer organisation. It can be used to implement extensive projects that meet the development needs of your organisation. A thesis is an excellent way of researching, experimenting or developing something for which there would otherwise not be time in everyday life.
You can submit a commission for a thesis free of change in our Jobs service.
Master’s thesis (20 credits)
A master’s thesis is a more demanding organisation-level development task, which suits the employers and the employee’s joint goals. The work provides in-depth analysis and assessment of effectiveness.
20 credits correspond to about 520 working hours (about 70 workdays)
Bachelor’s thesis (15 credits)
A bachelor’s thesis is a research and development task. It can be done individually, in pairs or in groups, and it produces concrete solutions to practical working life issues.
The scope of the thesis is 15 credits, corresponding to about 400 hours of work (about 53 working days).
Kasvupaja workshop
The Kasvupaja workshop is an operating model, where a student group and our experts respond to a development challenge commissioned by an organisation. An expert facilitates the development work carried out by the students in the workshop, where they work together to find solutions and new ways of tackling the challenge. The Kasvupaja workshop can be a two-hour workshop or a longer development process.
Workshops can be implemented regionally according to the commissioner’s wishes. It is suitable, for example, for developing services or methods of operation, testing new ideas, strengthening community or participation, and developing communication and interaction.
The workshops are a fast, agile and inclusive method of progress. They often offer more than one solution: They increase understanding and provide new viewpoints.

Why offer internships and thesis projects to UAS students?
Taking on students from universities of applied sciences as interns or for writing a thesis is a concrete way of combining working life development and social responsibility. At the same time, the organisation gets access to up-to-date know-how, new perspectives and solutions based on researched knowledge for its own development needs.
Universities of applied science are built for close interaction with working life. Students’ internships and theses are work-based developmental modules combining practical needs, professional competence and pedagogical guidance. Organisations are supported by motivated actors and the expertise and structures of an institute of higher education.
By offering internships and theses, the organisation contributes to the development of a skilled workforce, the strengthening of the working skills of young people and those switching careers, and the sustainable development of society. At the same time, low-threshold cooperation is created, which can develop into longer-term partnerships, recruitments and new operating models.
Cooperation with students is an investment in the future – in people, know-how and the renewal of working life.
Instructions for submitting an internship or thesis commission
Cooperation between education and working life is made concrete with internship courses. It is important for students to learn at the workplace. A successful and high-quality internship benefits the place of the internship, the student and the institute of higher education.
You can also leave others here, such as thesis commissions and summer job offers, for our students. Go directly to Instructions for submitting a commission
Duration of the internship
At Humak, various study modules can be completed in the form of an internship. In general, an internship of 10 credits usually lasts 5 to 6 weeks. Internships can also be combined for larger modules.
The student can be in an internship all year round and also in the summer. Every year, dozens of students from our school’s European partner universities also study at Humak. They can also complete studies in the form of internships in Finnish organisations.
We recommend paying the intern a salary or remuneration. This increases your chances of finding a motivated intern.
An intern’s work tasks
In the start of studies, the main emphasis is on getting acquainted with working life and the profession. In the final phase of studies, the emphasis is on more demanding and independent work tasks.
All internships also provide theoretical knowledge of the subject area and use the relevant literature in the analysis and evaluation of work tasks.
Prerequisites for an internship
The workplace must have a responsible person appointed for the intern, i.e. an intern instructor, who undertakes to guide the intern throughout the internship. For this guidance, the workplace representative receives training from Humak. At the end of the session, the intern receives a final written and oral feedback from the instructor.
A successful internship demands cooperation from the workplace, student and university of applied sciences. The goals of the internship are written in the internship agreement, which is drawn up before the start of the internship. At the same time, an internship plan is also approved.
- During the internship, the intern has the right to study at the Humak University of Applied Sciences, and they have the status of a student.
- The student is covered by the insurance cover of Humak (accident and liability insurance) as long as the internship agreement has been drawn up correctly and is in force.
- If, in addition to this agreement, the place of the internship and the student wish to agree separately on the employment relationship, a separate employment contract is concluded between the employer and the employee in accordance with the Employment Contracts Act. In this case, the student entering the internship will be treated in the same way as the employees of the internship centre with regard to liability insurance.
- The student draws up the agreement and the internship plan and submits it for electronic signature (AtomiSign service) to the senior lecturer in charge of the internship and then to the internship’s instructor
- The organisation shall designate an instructor for the internship, who shall be an employee of the internship and an expert in the relevant field, with the necessary training and experience for the role. The intern may, where appropriate, have several instructors in the workplace, one of whom has the main responsibility for instructing the intern.
- All parties must sign an electronic internship agreement before the start of the internship.
- Any changes require drawing up a new agreement.
- A contract normally ends at the end of the internship.
- A contract may be terminated on the grounds laid down in the Employment Contracts Act (Chapter 8, Section 1) if the attainment of the objectives of the internship has been seriously jeopardised.
- The party requesting the termination of the contract shall inform in writing the representative of Humak
- If an internship is terminated for a justified reason, such as a serious illness of the intern or reasons preventing the continuation of the internship in the organisation, the termination shall always necessitate a discussion between all parties.
- Disagreements about the interpretation of an internship agreement are primarily to be resolved by negotiation between the parties to the agreement.
Confidentiality
If the place of the internship has confidential information, the place of the internship shall conclude a separate non-disclosure agreement with the student.
Before the internship
- Provide the intern enough guidance and time and responsibility to take on work tasks. Ensure that the intern is sufficiently well-informed (e.g. on procedures and safety at work). Involve the intern in the work community.
During the internship
- Please provide constructive feedback to the student in regular guidance discussions and in a more informal way in the context of work assignments
- During the internship, it is possible to organise a three-way discussion (instructor, intern, senior lecturer) by the middle of the internship, as agreed by the intern. The discussion can be held online or by email.
- Please contact the institute of higher education if any persons related to the internship require related support during the internship.
At the end of the internship
- Please hold an oral feedback discussion with the intern.
- Fill in the evaluation form for the intern to submit to the instructor of the internship.
- Together with the intern, think about the future prospects of the industry and the continuation of possible forms of cooperation.
- At the intern’s request, create a work certificate.
To keep in mind
- The intern’s instructor is responsible for guidance at the workplace.
- The intern is part of the working community.
- The goal of the internship is supporting the student’s growth as a professional
Submitting a commission for our students is free of charge. Students can see your internship commission in the mobile service Tuudo, which is a mobile service used by students every day. Job and internship commissions are very popular content in the service. Your commission will reach over 2,000 potential future professionals in your industry.
Through Tuudo, you can offer not only jobs and internships, but also smaller assignments for, for example, study courses or larger thesis projects.
Instructions:
- Create an account in the jobs.humak.fi service and remember your user ID.
- Fill in the basic information of your organisation to the service and save them. Upload the logo, write a short description of your organisation, its contact details and website address. A logo is not necessary, but it can improve the visibility of your commission in our service. Any saved information remains stored, and you can utilise it when submitting new commissions to the service.
- Create your commission. From the menu, you can choose the type of work (internship, job, summer job, project, thesis, voluntary work, etc.), the type of job, the duration and the period of validity of the commission. By default, a job advertisement will remain in service for a maximum of three months but can be renewed if desired.
- Select the field and the applicant’s required skills. You can target the commission to students of specific fields or to all. In addition, you can choose from a list the knowledge and skills required of the applicant (language skills, driving licence, etc.). This facilitates the submitting of the commission.
- There is no limit to the number of commissions. You can make use of your old commissions as the basis for new commissions, as they remain stored in the service.
- Once you have saved your commission, it will be checked by our specialists for the necessary information and, if it meets the necessary criteria, it will be published on our Career service. If, for any reason, it is not accepted, the reason shall be stated in the service.
Humak’s internships are flexible for both the workplace and the student. Internships are open for students all year round and are not tied to specific periods. The internship can be divided into periods and can be flexible according to the needs of the project, e.g. by being completed in a part-time manner.
After finding an intern, you will be directed to the service, from which you can find documents related to internships. They are relevant when Humak, the place of the internship and the student agree on the objectives of the internship, the tasks to be carried out and any remuneration to be paid to the student. Feedback provided to the intern after the work is also important.
