Interpreter (Bachelor’s Degree)

The interpreter degree programme provides you with the expertise to work as a professional in interpreting, linguistic accessibility, and interpersonal communication. You can choose a specialization area that interests you.

Sign Language Interpreter

A sign language interpreter works in interaction between languages and cultures. You build bridges between hearing (non-signing) and signing people, enabling their equal and smooth interaction. You interpret from sign language to spoken language and vice versa. You work in various environments and situations with people of all ages – it’s precisely this diversity that makes the work so rich and meaningful.

Sign language interpreting opens doors to multilingual and multicultural interaction. Humak’s sign language interpreting programme focuses on the Finnish Sign Language and Finnish language combination, but studying Finland-Swedish Sign Language is also possible.

Additionally, you can utilize all the languages you master in your work as a sign language interpreter – turning languages into bridges that connect people.

As an interpreter, you enable smooth, understandable, and equal interaction in both directions – from the person with a speech impairment to others and vice versa.

The programme also provides strong pedagogical expertise and interaction skills for work as a communication instructor. As a communication instructor, you provide guidance, counseling, and coaching in various communication methods and situations.

As an interpreter for people with speech impairments and a communication instructor, you utilize a wide range of communication methods in your work. These may include, for example, plain language, pictures and symbols, signing, various communication applications, and combinations of these depending on the situation.

You are the key to smooth, equal, and meaningful communication.
