Thesis
Here you’ll find the specific instructions and documents you need at different stages of the thesis process.
Graduation
Gongratulations, our graduate!
Humak has a system of continuous graduation, which means that diploma applications are processed continuously and graduation is possible once the diploma application submitted by the graduate has been processed.
On this page, you will find all the important information related to graduation.
After graduation, you are warmly welcome to join our alumni community and take part in its activities.
Applying for a Degree Certificate
You can apply for a degree certificate using the electronic application form when:
- all studies have been completed
- all study credits and grades have been recorded in the study register
- the thesis has been submitted to Theseus
- your study right is still valid, and you have an active attendance status.
If your study right is about to expire before all your study credits have been recorded, please contact the Student Services.
You will receive a link to the degree certificate application after completing the AVOP survey. Completing the survey is mandatory. Once you have submitted your response, a link to the application will appear on the last page. Make sure to save the link if you do not intend to complete the application immediately.
The average processing time for degree certificate applications is two weeks. Once your application has been processed and your degree certificate is available for downloading in Peppi, you will receive a email notification. After the notification has been sent, you will have approximately two weeks to download your degree certificate before your Peppi user account expires. If you cannot log in to Peppi anymore, please contact the Student Services.
You can download your electronic degree certificate from the Student Certificates page on the Peppi Student Desktop by selecting the Degree Certificate tab. Detailed instructions are available in a video guide explaining how to download your degree certificate from Peppi.
The official graduation date is the date on which the degree certificate application is submitted.
All Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students graduating from a University of Applied Sciences are encouraged to respond to a joint AVOP student feedback survey by UASs and the Ministry of Education. The survey collects student feedback on issues related to teaching and learning, internships and work-life connections, and internationality.
The Ministry of Education and Culture utilizes student feedback in the evaluation of education, in comparisons between institutions and fields of education, and in the planning of education. Universities use the feedback received to develop education and training in different fields of study and degrees, and to compare it with student feedback from other institutions.
Instructions for Completing the Survey
Answer the AVOP survey at https://avop.fi/fi. It takes about 15-20 minutes to answer the survey. Once you have submitted the survey, you will receive a link to the online degree application form.
Log in with your Humak ID via the Haka login (the login view is in the upper right corner). Choose the University of Applied Sciences as the home organization. Make sure that the information displayed (degree, language of completion, UAS, type of education) is correct and proceed to answer the questionnaire. If you receive an error message, contact your Study Affairs Office: avop@humak.fi.
Humak holds a graduation celebration twice a year: at the end of December and at the end of May or beginning of June. The event celebrates students who have graduated or are about to graduate during the semester.
Information about the graduation celebration, including registration and practical arrangements, will be provided separately during each semester. Up-to-date information will be published in the Humak Team on Microsoft Teams, as well as on Humak’s website and social media channels.
Here at Humak we use a digital degree diploma starting from the 1st of September 2022. The digital degree diploma is an official document signed by the President or the Vice President of Humak and does not require a separate certification. The diploma can be submitted in digital form (e.g. as an attached file) to different authorities or an employer. If the diploma gets lost, a new digital version equivalent to the original diploma is always available.
It is recommended that you save several backup copies of your electronic degree certificate and store them in multiple secure locations. Do not remove or modify any part of the original file name. You may add text before or after the original file name if needed. This ensures that the official electronic signature remains valid. You may print copies of your electronic degree certificate for your own use, but the official degree certificate exists only in electronic format.
The authenticity of the electronic certificate can be verified using the Digital and Population Data Services Agency’s “Verify a Document” service or through the validation service available on Humak’s website.
Upon graduation, the following documents are issued (for degrees completed in Finnish):
- Degree Certificate (in Finnish)
- Diploma Supplement
- Official Transcript of Records (in Finnish and English)
- The official graduation date is the date on which the degree certificate application is submitted..
- The average processing time for a degree certificate application is two weeks. Please note that processing times may be longer during peak periods, particularly in December and May.
- As a rule, degree certificates are not issued in July. You may still submit your degree certificate application during July, and it will be processed no later than August.
- Degree certificates for students graduating at the end of December are generally issued in January.
- You will receive an email notification when your degree certificate is available for collection in Peppi. The certificate can be downloaded for two weeks after you receive the notification.
- It is the student’s responsibility to consider how their graduation date may affect their student financial aid. You are eligible for financial aid from Kela if your graduation date falls on or after the 18th day of the month. If you graduate before the 18th, you are not entitled to receive financial aid for that month.
- Access rights to Humak’s information systems generally expire 30 days after graduation.
- Humak organizes a graduation celebration twice a year.
If your electronic degree certificate is lost, or if you need a certified copy of it, you can order a copy of your degree certificate through a separate electronic form.
You can order a copy of your Degree Diploma or Transcript of Records from Humak University of Applied Sciences after you have graduated or your study entitlement has ended in other ways.
