Creative Circular Cities – Promoting circular transition at local level by involving the Culture & Creative Sectors and Industries

We promote the visibility of the circular economy in an international project in collaboration with creative sector actors.

Creative industries as promoters of the circular economy

Creative Circular Cities (CCC) is a three-year international project that promotes the circular economy by leveraging the expertise of the creative industries. The project is being carried out in six Baltic Sea cities: Turku, Århus, Kiel, Gdynia, Riga, and Tallinn. The project involves a total of 14 partners from different cities. In Turku, Humak, the City of Turku, and Valonia form a strong local working group with diverse expertise and extensive networks relevant for key players in promoting the circular economy.

Humak has long-standing experience as a developer and maintainer of creative industries and networks. In the project, Humak plays a central role in connecting creative sector actors to the collaboration. The goal is to utilize the innovative potential of creative industries in developing circular economy practices.

Measures in the Turku region

1. Multidisciplinary, circular economy-themed idea incubator: aiming to find creative and innovative ways to increase the visibility of the circular economy.

2. Highlighting the impact of multidisciplinary development that utilizes creativity, for example through publications and theses.

3. Challenge competition: aiming to gather the Turku region’s circular economy services and related information onto an easily accessible, shared platform.

4. ReTurku Circular Economy Carnival (Valonia): open circular economy events where methods developed in the project are tested.

5. Co-development arena (City of Turku): a permanent, cross-organizational network of circular economy and cultural actors in Turku.

6. International material package: project actors in the Turku region participate in producing international materials for the CCC project based on the results of project work.
