In addition to the individual grant, students receive travel support. The amount is determined based on the distance between the country of departure and the destination country.
The travel support is calculated based on the straight-line distance between the host organization and Humak’s Helsinki campus. If you are traveling to your destination from outside Finland, please notify us at erasmusmobility@humak.fi.
Students are eligible for higher travel support if they travel to their destination in an environmentally friendly manner, i.e., using low-emission modes of transport for at least half of the journey. Read more about green travel and responsibility during your exchange in the Student’s Guide.

Students can also receive a subsistence allowance for travel days. The allowance is paid for 0–2 days of non-green travel and 0–6 days of green travel.
The grant is paid in two installments in long-term exchanges (80% before the exchange and 20% after). In short-term exchanges, the grant is paid in one installment before the exchange.
The grant is paid to the student’s bank account within approximately four weeks of signing the Grant Agreement.
The grant may be partially or fully reclaimed if the student fails to complete all required exchange-related tasks.
Other benefits
Kela can grant a study grant for international student exchange, if the studies abroad are recognized towards a degree at Humak. The study grant for studies abroad is normally used up in months of support and is taken into account in the monitoring of progress.
Before starting the student exchange, the student must submit a notification of change of study support to Kela electronically in the Kela e-service.
You can also get a higher study loan during your exchange studies.
Read more about Kela study support for studies abroad on the Kela website.
If you are studying with the support of the TE Office or the Employment Fund, for example, you must agree with your sponsor about studying abroad in advance.
Further information is available directly from the sponsors.
