A new study module: LEARN – Supporting communities through experiential learning – A bilingual programme for Ukrainian education professionals in Finland
Humak’s new functional bilingual study module for Ukrainian teachers, professionals, and students in the social and educational fields, started in January 2023. The module is 25 ETCS and it consists of 7 courses and practical training during 2023.

The study module aims to strengthen the participants’ knowledge and skills regarding the use of experiential and activity-based methods as part of education and social work, focusing on the promotion of resilience in communities. Studies are partly carried out outdoors, utilizing nature and outdoor activities.
The goal of bilingual implementation is to strengthen the student’s professional language competence in Finnish and English. Moreover, it includes Finnish language supported training in Finnish working life.
A study module is designed for target groups’ use in Finland or when they return to Ukraine. The study module consists of parts of the Humanistic University of Applied Sciences (Humak UAS) Community Educator Bachelor’s Degree. Students are given a possibility for student counseling if they are interested in continuing to degree students after study module. This provides a possibility to apply after the study module to become a Humak UAS degree student.
Target group:
The study module is suitable for Ukrainian teaching and social service professionals and students who live in the Metropolitan area of Finland. The study right for the module is for Ukrainians who have the right to reside in Finland with the status of temporary protection.
Studies are suitable for persons who want to strengthen and maintain the use of activity-based methods and experiential education in their work. The studies are targeted to strengthen the participants’ Finnish and English language skills and enable them to familiarize themselves with Finnish working life in a supported manner.
Prerequisites:
The training is carried out bilingually where in some lessons interpretation in Ukrainian / Russian may be used. It is acknowledged that students’ Finnish and English skills might be on a primary level. Therefore the programme is designed in a language learning mode where students will have the opportunity to learn Finnish with the support of English and Ukrainian during their studies. (The teaching languages are Finnish and English. The participants should be willing to listen, read, write and speak English.) Studies are carried out partly in the natural environment. Students need to have the ability to move on uneven surfaces and have a physical condition that enables participation in activity-based methods outdoors.
Traveling expenses with public transportation will be covered within the capital region.

How:
- Education is free for students
- Humak UAS provides a laptop to students for the duration of their studies
- Includes online and face-to-face teaching
- Studies are conducted from one to three days weekly during office hours (08:00 – 16:00). A more detailed timetable will be provided on January 2023.
- Studies contains individual and group assignments
- Studies are partly carried out outdoors, utilizing nature and outdoor activities
Where and when:
The studies will be carried out during the year 2023.
Studies have started on January 2023. Due to cancellations a few student places are available. You can apply for late registration.
Humak UAS’s Helsinki campus (Ilkantie 4) will be the students’ home campus during their studies. Moreover, some studies are taking place at Humak UAS’s Nurmijärvi campus.
Studies include the experiential study trip to Finnish Youth Center. The study trip will be held for three days and participants can join the camp together with their children. All the expenses will be covered for this expedition.
The placement of Practical training 1: Introduction to the field of education in Finland can take place in the Metropolitan region or outside of it.
Apply for entry:
20 students will be accepted.
Students will be selected for the programme during the application period based on a first come first serve order.

Новий навчальний модуль: Підтримка громад через дослідницьке навчання
Новий функціональний двомовний навчальний модуль Університету прикладних наук Humak для українських викладачів, фахівців і студентів соціальної та освітньої галузей почався у січні 2023. За проходження програми надається 25 кредитів ETCS. Програма складається з 7 курсів і практичного тренінгу протягом 2023 року.
Навчальний модуль має на меті поглибити знання та закріпити навички учасників з використання дослідницьких та діяльнісних методів у сферах освіти та соціальної роботи, зосереджуючись на посиленні резильєнтності громад. Навчання буде частково проводитися на відкритому повітрі з залученням природного середовища та різних видів активності.
Метою двомовного навчання є вдосконалення професійної мовної компетентності учасників у фінській та англійській мовах. Крім того, програма включає тренінг з адаптації до трудового життя Фінляндії фінською мовою.
Навчальний модуль розроблений для використання цільовими групами у Фінляндії або після повернення в Україну. Навчальний модуль складається з частин програми бакалаврського рівня «Освіта громади» Гуманістичного університету прикладних наук (УПН Humak). Після закінчення даної програми зацікавлені в продовженні навчання студенти мають можливість отримати подальші освітні консультації. Це дозволить їм після проходження навчального модуля подати заявку на отримання диплома УПН Humak.
Цільова група:
Навчальний модуль підходить для українських освітян і фахівців соціальних служб, а також для студентів цих напрямків, які проживають у столичному регіоні Фінляндії. Право на участь у програмі надається українцям, які мають дозвіл на проживання у Фінляндії на підставі тимчасового захисту.
Програма підійде особам, які хочуть поглибити знання та закріпити навички з використання дослідницьких та діяльнісних методів навчання у своїй роботі. Навчання також спрямоване на підвищення рівня володіння фінською та англійською мовами і ознайомлення з фінським трудовим життям.
Передумови:
Навчання проводиться двома мовами, на окремих уроках можливий переклад українською/російською. Враховуючи, що учасники можуть мати початковий рівень володіння фінською та англійською мовами, програма була розроблена в форматі вивчення мови. Це значить, що учасники під час навчання матимуть можливість вивчати фінську за допомогою англійської та української мов. (Мови викладання – фінська та англійська. Учасники повинні бути готовими слухати, читати, писати та розмовляти англійською мовою.) Навчання частково проводитиметься в природному середовищі. Учасники повинні бути готовими до пересування нерівними поверхнями, а їх фізичний стан повинен дозволяти їм брати участь у діяльності на відкритому повітрі.
Витрати на проїзд громадським транспортом покриваються в межах столичного регіону.

Навчання почалося у січні 2023 року. Наразі звільнилося декілька місць. Ви можете подати заявку та доєднатися до програми на цьому етапі.
Студентський кампус Haaga (Ilkantie 4) університету Humak буде домашнім кампусом під час проходження програми. Крім того, деякі заняття проводитимуться в кампусі Humak в Нурміярві (Nurmijärvi).
Навчання включає ознайомчу поїздку до Фінського молодіжного центру (Finnish Youth Center). Навчальна поїздка триватиме три дні, учасники зможуть приїхати до табору разом зі своїми дітьми. Всі витрати на цей виїзний захід покриваються.
Практичний тренінг 1: Ознайомлення з трудовим життям Фінляндії буде проведено у столичному регіоні або за його межами.
