I belong – Project skills through artistic expression

We strengthen the inclusion and employability of immigrant women by designing and implementing art projects together.

Project skills through artistic expression

I belong is a three-year project co-funded by the European Union, in which women plan and implement art projects together with local associations, cultural organisations and other actors in Southwest Finland. The project runs from 2026 to 2029 and aims to reach at least 70 women.

Many women with migrant background have extensive skills in art and crafts, yet these strengths often go unrecognised. I belong starts from strengths: art is a pathway through which skills become visible and through which women gain experience as active agents. Humak brings to the project its long experience of working with migrant women, combined with expertise in coaching pedagogy and arts-based methods.

Actions

Each participant takes part in a personal coaching conversation to identify her skills, strengths and interests.

Women meet in small groups, learn the basics of project work and form teams that plan their own art project.

Teams carry out their project (such as a photography exhibition) in collaboration with local actors, taking responsibility for its delivery themselves.

The operational model developed during the project is shared with organisations working in integration, culture and civic engagement.
