Accounts and Login

HAKA is a shared login system for Finnish higher education institutions. It lets you sign in to many study-related services — such as Peppi and Canvas — using your Humak credentials, without needing a separate account for each service.

When logging in, select Humak as your organisation and enter your Humak username and password. HAKA identifies you as a Humak student and grants access to the service.

Humak’s identity service is accessed via Suomi.fi using online banking credentials or a mobile certificate.

Your username is displayed during activation in the identity service, after you have accepted the ICT terms of use and proceeded to set your password.

You use your Humak username to log in to Peppi, Canvas, Microsoft 365, and other study tools

  • Peppi and Canvas: log in via Haka with your username only (e.g. testte01)
  • Microsoft 365: log in as username@humak.fi (e.g. testte01@humak.fi)

Log in to Peppi and Canvas via Haka authentication using your Humak username and password. The username format is e.g. testte01.

Log in to Microsoft 365 as username@humak.fi (e.g. testte01@humak.fi).

Log in to Google Workspace services with your humak.fi email in the format firstname.lastname@humak.fi (e.g. teuvo.testi@humak.fi).

First check that your account is activated, that you are using the correct username and password, and try resetting your password if needed. If the problem persists, contact IT support.

Password

A good password is long, hard to guess, and known only to you. The minimum length at Humak is 12 characters.

No. Do not reuse passwords across services. If the same password is compromised in one place, your other accounts become vulnerable too.

Reset your password or use the “Forgot your password” option on the login page of Haka-enabled service such as Peppi.

Change your password immediately if you suspect it has been compromised, if you clicked a suspicious link, or if you received MFA requests you did not initiate.

Change your password immediately and contact IT support if you suspect unauthorised use of your account.

No. Never send your password or MFA codes to IT support. IT support does not need your password to resolve issues.

Passwords must be changed every 4 months. A reminder will be sent to your humak.fi email address before expiry.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA stands for Multi-Factor Authentication.

It adds a second verification step on top of your password when logging in. This significantly improves security and protects your account against phishing and other attacks.

MFA is mandatory for all Humak Microsoft 365 services, including email, Teams, and other Office applications.

MFA is set up during your first Microsoft 365 login. It is not a separate step taken in advance.

Yes. Multi-factor authentication is mandatory for all students using Humak Microsoft 365 services.

MFA is triggered during the Microsoft 365 login process. It is not activated as a separate preliminary step.

Check your phone’s network connection, open the Authenticator app manually, and try an alternative verification method if one is available.

Try an alternative verification method if available. If login is not possible or your phone has changed, contact IT support.

Do not approve it. Change your password immediately and contact IT support — someone may be attempting to log in with your credentials.

Change your password immediately and contact IT support.

Yes. You can also use SMS verification or a phone call, but the Authenticator app is the recommended option.

Add your new phone to your MFA settings. If you cannot log in, contact IT support.

Do not remove the old method until the new phone has been tested and confirmed to work.

Try logging in with an alternative verification method. If that is not possible, contact IT support and request an MFA reset or re-registration.

Yes. The Microsoft Authenticator app allows you to back up to the cloud (iCloud or Google account) and restore to a new device.

Microsoft 365 and Applications

Yes. Browser-based versions are available without any installation.

You may not have the required access rights. Contact IT support if the installation option is not visible.

Restart the application and test the same service in the browser version. If the problem continues, uninstall and reinstall the application.

Check that you are using the correct format (username@humak.fi), verify your password, and try a different browser. Reset your password if needed and contact IT support if the issue continues.

Yes. Many services are available on mobile, but you will need a computer as your primary study device.

Close the app, sign out and back in, make sure you are using your Humak work or school account, and try uninstalling and reinstalling the app if needed.

Share only with the people who need to see or edit the file. Avoid “anyone with the link” sharing. Review permissions before sharing and remove access when it is no longer needed.

Check that messages, files, and recordings are shared with the correct group. Do not add external people to groups or files without a clear reason and permission. If your group work involves personal data, interview recordings, or other confidential material, agree in advance where it will be stored and who can access it.

Devices and networks

Some services work on mobile, but you will need your own computer as your primary study device.

Humak can help with issues related to Humak’s systems, accounts, and connections. The maintenance and repair of a student’s own device is the student’s responsibility.

Use username@humak.fi and your own password.

Reinstall the Eduroam profile on the Humak network and sign in with your new password.

Exercise caution on public networks. Use the Eduroam network on campus as your primary connection and do not handle sensitive information on open networks.

Keep your operating system and software up to date, use screen lock, and do not leave your computer unattended in shared spaces.

Change your password as soon as possible. If you suspect someone may have accessed Humak services, or if the device contained personal data or confidential material, contact IT support or security@humak.fi.

Follow the instructions

Yes, as long as the device supports secure printing.

Check that you printed to the correct queue and try again if needed.

Check your username and password and try another device. Contact IT support if needed.

Do not leave printed documents at the printer and only print what is necessary.

Information security

Information security means keeping your account, devices, files, and study-related information safe.

A scam message may appear urgent or threatening, ask you to log in quickly, verify your account, open an attachment, or provide your password.

Do not open links or attachments, do not reply, and do not provide your credentials or password. You can forward a screenshot or the message details to IT support.

Close the page immediately. If you entered any credentials or other information, change your password and contact IT support.

Change your password immediately. If you cannot log in, contact IT support and describe what happened and when you noticed it.

Share only with the people who need to see or edit the file. Avoid open “anyone with the link” sharing, review permissions, and remove unnecessary access.
