Humak and SUMMIT Adventure Academy offer outdoor expedition training in Nepal

Humak continues to deliver adventure and outdoor education training with SUMMIT Adventure Academy, in Nepal. The two organizations delivered their first training for international mountain and river guides in cooperation in Nepal in autumn 2022 and now offer the same training package in autumn 2023.

SUMMIT Adventure Academy is the leading private provider of adventure guide education and expedition based learning in Nepal, with 30 years of experience in adventure tourism and outdoor education. The training is expedition based using challenge focused learning, meaning that the participants study theories that are put into direct practice during expeditions carried out in the mountains and on the rivers of the Nepalese Himalayas.

Humak is the leading higher education provider in adventure and outdoor education in Europe, offering its own bachelor’s degree in adventure and outdoor education. Degree programme students study the theories of outdoor education and get to practise them actively through expeditions and outdoor activities that are part of their studies.

SUMMIT Adventure Academy and Humak, follow high safety and quality standards, and practice similar ways of combining theoretical and practical learning methods. This makes them a good match for offering adventure and outdoor trainings in cooperation.

International mountain and river guide education

SUMMIT Adventure Academy arranges the training, International mountain and river guide education, in Nepal in autumn 2023. As part of the training Humak will deliver a course in outdoor leadership (5ECTS). This means that the participants completing the course will, besides the training certificate and internationally recognized awards in for instance trek leadership and wilderness first aid, be awarded with a Transcript of Records showing that they have completed 5ECTS at Humak University of Applied Sciences. This certificate may come in handy for participants who aspire to start university studies in outdoor education in the future.

The international mountain and river guide education will equip the participants with theories and practical experience of working outdoors and is carried out in the Himalayan mountains and on its rivers. The focus is on high altitude trek leading and mountaineering, as well as raft guiding and white-water kayaking, combined with expedition and sustainability management.

We are thrilled to be able to offer this training in cooperation with Humak for a second time, says Xenia Brundin from SUMMIT Adventure Academy. Tero Lämsä, Team Leader for the adventure and outdoor education team at Humak, completely agrees with Xenia, and adds to it that both organizations are keen to expand the cooperation during the coming years. Both Xenia and Tero want to encourage anyone with a passion for, and with experience of outdoor activities to sign up for the training.
