Well-being young people in North Karelia


The project explores how young people in northern Karelia. The point of view, both in terms of information and phenomena and methods, is youth orientation. What do young people think about well-being in general and what is needed to ensure that young people feel well in the province? The aim is to produce information and development proposals directly from young people about their own needs, experiences and wishes in relation to welfare-promoting services in North Karelia.

The report gathers information on the whole region. The opinions and experiences of young people will be mapped by an electronic survey of all municipalities (13 municipalities) in co-operation with schools and partners. Information from youth will be gather regionally also by using and testing various workshops and participatory methods. The data collected in the project is public and open for everyone to be used in the planning, implementation and communication of services.

Objectives

This study aims to gather the experiences of young people from a wide range of target groups through youth work, organisations, hobbies and targeted youth work (outreach youth work and workshops), including young people who are outside education or are not already ‘active’. Young people are also met and information is collected at various events, festivals, etc. Co-operation with local schools and educational institutions, youth work and organisations as well as with the Regional Youth Council will also be carried out in order to reach out to young people and inform them of the results.

As a result of the survey, new local and regional youth-driven data will be available and reported in two phases. The collected information is available to partner organisations and municipalities in the development of services and in future project preparation. Findings and phenomena from young people are actively brought to the common discussion.

New local information specific from the region bring possibilities for the development of services in the region and for project preparation. The report of the project is public and can be used by all actors.

The aim of this information is to develop services in such a way that everyone, young and adult alike, is better acquainted with local services and is able to act with a preventive approach.

The aim is also to provide young people the information and understanding about the welfare area and the services they can be used.
