Building a sustainable world through community education


Building a sustainable world through community education is a project in which will developed a new functional bilingual study module (LEARN – Supporting communities through experiential learning (25 ETCS) – A bilingual programme for Ukrainian education professionals in Finland) consisting of parts from the community education and adventure education degrees at Humak University of Applied Sciences. The studies are 25 ECTS (Consisting of six courses and practical training)

The study module is for Ukrainian teachers, professionals, and students in the social and educational fields. The study right for the module is for Ukrainians who have the right to reside in Finland with the status of temporary protection (https://migri.fi/en/temporary-protection). For students, the study module offers an opportunity to educate themselves, learn Finnish and English and get to know Finnish working life during a practical training period.

In cooperation with the Finnish Youth Centres a three-day experiential camp will be conducted.

Objectives

1. Project aims to provide a study module for target groups’ use in Finland or when they return to Ukraine.
1.1 The study module consists of parts of the Community Developer degree. The studies will help participants apply through a separate application process as a community developer student in Humak University of Applied Sciences.
1.2 Students returning to Ukraine can utilize what they have learned, and they will have new practical tools to use in their teaching.
2. Study module aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of the participants in the use of experiential and activity-based methods as part of the promotion of resilience and community growth.
3. The goal of bilingual implementation is to strengthen students’ professional language competence in both Finnish and English. To facilitate deeper learning study module includes a practical training in Finnish working life.
4. Bilingual study module can later be offered to a wider group of international students and thus support the integration and employment of international experts in Finland.
